Considered Abortion More Safer Than Childbirth

The U.S. Supreme Court legalized abortion in 1973. But until recently, opponents questioned the safety of medical procedures still in use. A recent study states that abortion is safer than childbirth.

According to the study, women who are pregnant until delivery has probably died 14 times higher compared with women who choose to have abortions.

Regardless of the sentiment about abortion, legal abortion is very safe and dramatically safer than continuing pregnancy.

According to a study published in the journal Obstetrics & Gynecology, one reason for the low risk is due to the abortion pill can be taken early in pregnancy, so it does not have to go through surgical procedures. Another reason is in many countries, women are given advance information before undergoing an abortion.

There are many fast-growing information about the current legal abortions, and some of them misleading. Most of them contain about abortion complications. People without a medical background would conclude that abortion is more dangerous than continuing the pregnancy.

To estimate the risk of death, researchers combined information from several national data collected between 1998 and 2005 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Guttmacher Institute. This data comes from an annual survey of U.S. hospitals, clinics and physician offices that provide legal abortion services.

Of live births, researchers find there are 2856 female deaths between 1998 and 2005. That is, the risk for death was 8.8 deaths out of every 100,000 pregnancies. For legal abortion, 64 deaths were reported in the same time frame. That means the risk of death is 0.6 per 100,000 pregnancies.

In addition, researchers also found that complications such as bleeding, infection and high blood pressure disorder is more common in women who chose to continue her pregnancy.

According to researchers, it is because women who maintain the pregnancy until delivery has a much longer time for the development of pregnancy-related health problems.

But not all experts agree with this research.

Data on abortion-related deaths are not systematically collected. was clearly illustrates the importance of reporting of abortion-related deaths statewide. Abortion resulting in significant risks for mothers and women who will live it must have access to good and accurate.
